and the importance of daily sunscreen
Reading time: 2 minutes
Sunscreen is a very important step of any skincare routine and should always be the last product to apply in your morning routine. It helps to prevent dangerous skin cancer and is essential to fight premature skin aging due to sun damage. If you ask me, it’s the most effective thing you can do in terms of “anti-aging”. There’s not really something to keep your skin from aging and also, there is nothing wrong with mature skin. But we can still do our part to at least prevent premature aging and keeping our skin as healthy as possible.

Why do you need sunscreen?
In general you should get at least SPF 35, preferably more though. I like to choose products with SPF 45 or 50. This is an important aspect because you have to apply a certain amount of product to achieve this level of protection. Hence, the less protection the product offers, the higher the risk of not applying enough and getting any significant protection.
But I’m already using a BB cream/foundation with SPF 15, isn’t that sufficient? No, sadly it’s not sufficient at all. Like mentioned you would need to apply A LOT of that cream/foundation to even get the protection level of 15 and even if you did, SPF 15 is not enough to protect your skin. Powders with SPF are even more useless, because who would even apply that thick of a layer? And if you did, it would not give your skin a particularly nice look, so just do the sunscreen step properly and save your make up.
What I look for in a sunscreen
What do I look for in a sunscreen? Well, apart from giving me SPF 45 to 50 protection, I also prefer sunscreen that don’t actually feel like sunscreens. I have acne prone combination skin and like to wear some kind of base make up on most days. Whether that’s BB cream or a light foundation depends on my mood and my overall skin condition, but my sunscreen has to work beneath any kind of covering layer and not start crumbling on me. I like
- lightweight sunscreens
- that doesn’t leave an annoying whitecast
- or greasy feeling.
- The less work it takes to apply it the better.
During the winter months it’s great to have a sunscreen with moisturizing effect to avoid any dry patches. And of course affordable options are always welcome.
Cosrx Aloe Soothing Sunscreen SPF50 PA+++ ~12€
The Cosrx Aloe Soothing Sunscreen is a product that ticks all of the mentioned boxes. I especially recommend it for colder months or even skip the moisturizing step if the routine is hydrating enough without it. The formulation is not as gentle as some of the others, but I didn’t get any irritations from it.

Missha All Around Safe Block Essence Sun SPF45 PA+++ ~10€
This is the most common product to be the entry door into the world of Asian sunscreen. It is very easy to find and is even available at some drugstores in Germany. Even after trying numerous sunscreens I still think this is a great and easy staple to have. It works very well and didn’t cause me any breakouts. So while I’m not excited to repurchase it for now, I already used like 3 or 4 of these, it’s worth to try it if you haven’t already.
