AHA = alpha hydroxy acid. A chemical exfoliant, that works on the skin surface. AHAs can be synthetically or naturally derived. They exfoliate skin cells by breaking down the substance, that holds skin cells together. Popular AHAs are glycolic acid and lactic acid. They are said to improve photodamaged skin, normalize over-thickened skin and rejuvenate the skin surface. AHAs can increase sun sensitivity, so remember to apply sunscreen.
