A gentle non-foaming cleanser

The Ordinary belongs to Deciem and is best known for affordable, effective skincare and straightforward formulations. I’ve discovered many staple products for my skincare routine, so I’m always up for trying a new product from their range. The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser was especially intriguing, since I love a gentle cleanser and squalane is one of my favorite ingredients.

Ingredients

The Squalane cleanser is supposed to be suitable for all skin tpyes and strong enough to remove makeup, while leaving the skin smooth and moisturized. The star of the ingredient list is squalane: this ingredient helps to balance oil production, adds moisture to the skin and acts anti-inflammatory as well. It’s said to be beneficial for aging and blemishprone skin. Moreover, the cleanser is low pH, soap-free, alcohol-free, oil-free, silicone-free, vegan, cruelty-free and non-comedogenic.

Full Ingredients as stated on Deciem’s website

Squalane, Aqua (Water), Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Glycerin, Sucrose Stearate, Ethyl Macadamiate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sucrose Laurate, Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate, Sucrose Dilaurate, Sucrose Trilaurate, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Isoceteth-20, Sodium Polyacrylate, Tocopherol, Hydroxymethoxyphenyl Decanone, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Malic Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Chlorphenesin

How do I use it?

You are supposed to rub the product between your palms to change the texture of the product. It’s a white lightweight, smooth texture. I use the cleanser as second cleanser as part of my double cleansing routine in the evening. So, I already used an oil-based cleanser before this product. I rub the product between my fingers and then I apply it on the skin. I try to gently distribute and massage it in, before rinsing it off with lukewarm water.

Effect

The Squalane cleanser doesn’t feel drying or irritating. It doesn’t bubble up and is effortless to wash off. I like that it leaves my skin feeling smooth and not dry. As mentioned, I use another cleanser before, so I can’t tell if this cleanser alone is able to remove makeup, but it can remove all remaining makeup left on my face after the first cleansing step. I can easily use this cleanser daily.

Do I recommend?

Considering, that you only get 50 ml for 7.20€ this cleanser is not the most affordable product from The Ordinary. It doesn’t last as long as other cleansers that cost just slightly more, so I understand why many people complain about the size and cost of the product. Deciem also offers a size with 150 ml for 18,20€ now. It’s great that they listened to their customers in offering more sizes, but overall it’s still slightly expensive for the brand compared to other cleansers and the the respective’s brand’s pricing. If you don’t mind that, the performance is decent, but not mindblowing.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Where to shop?

You can get the Squalane cleanser at any retailer that sells The Ordinary or directly from their website at Deciem.
