I discovered new favorite products for acneprone combination skin

I always look back on the year and reflect upon the good & bad and what lessons I can take from them for the following year. So, why not have a look on all the new skincare products I testet out? In this blog post I’ll share the best products I discovered in 2020 – which means that I’ll include products that are new to me, not necessarily new releases. For reference: I have acneprone combination skin and struggle with PIH, hormonal acne and want to prevent premature skin aging.

Products Mentioned

  1. I’m From Fig Cleansing Balm
  2. 107 Low pH Jelly Chaga Cleanser
  3. NIOD Survival 0
  4. The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Supsepnsion 10%
  5. The Inkey List Bakuchiol

I’m From Fig Cleansing Balm

The I’m From Fig Line was freshly released in 2020 and the K-Beauty brand I’m From kindly gifted the I’m From Fig Set to me. I have a full review for all three products:

The cleansing balm is my favorite product from the lineup. It melts effortlessly and removes makeup reliably. You don’t have to rub it harshly on the skin, all you have to do is gently massage it onto the skin, which gives you a spa-like experience and can help you unwind in the evening, especially if you do the double cleansing routine.

107 Low pH Jelly Chaga Cleanser

When it comes to second cleansers, I prefer to go for low pH gel-type cleansers to keep it as gentle as possible and not irritate my skin. The 107 Low pH Jelly Chaga Cleanser has undoubtedly become one of my all-time favorite cleansers, as it checks all of the boxes for me. It leaves the skin smooth and clean, without drying it out but still cleansing it thoroughly.

NIOD Survival 0

Antioxidants are essential to maintain healthy skin, they are probably some of the key players. At the same time, it is difficult to see immediate results as damages from a lack of antioxidants only show later, so it is mainly preventative work. Nevertheless, the NIOD Survival 0 is an elegantly formulated, easy-to-use powerful antioxidant product. It aims at fighting the appearance of photo damage, forming a physical shield against urban pollution and fighting oxidation. It doesn’t cause any irriations, integrates perfectly into the skincare routine and my cheeks have been less sensitive during the time I was using this product. It has become my favorite antioxidant product!

The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%

The Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% from The Ordinary is one of the biggest surprises of the year for me. This multifunctional brightening product turned out to be a suitable nighttime moisturizer for me. It’s a little on the dense side, so it would be too rich for the morning routine. But this way, I wake up with brighter, more even skin that looks and feels healthier overall. My breakouts go over faster and smoother than usual, so this is a sure favorite.

The Inkey List Bakuchiol

This year, I tried a variety of products from The Inkey List, and this Bakuchiol Moisturizer surely was one of the most exciting ones. I was very curious to try this ingredient as it’s supposed to be a natural, even pregnancy-safe alternative to retinol. There’s also no increased sun sensitivity, but of course I’m using sunscreen daily anyway. As another perk this product contains squalane for hydration and sacha inchi oil for added nourishment. So, it’s a very well-rounded, lightweight moisturizer that’s easy to incorporate into the routine. The effect is subtle, but noticeable after weeks of consistent use. For anyone who doesn’t want to use retinol, it’s a great alternative, if you don’t expect fast miraculous results.
